DATA SCIENCE – THE CAREER OF THE FUTURE
On the 26th of February 2020, the Society of Logical Interpretation of Data (SOLID) organized a forum namely: Data Science: The Career of the Future. It was the first event that the society ever hosted and it turned to be a huge success with the support of more than 100 participants. The forum was supported by MACS and Heriot-Watt Career Services. The launching of the society was held after the forum.

Introduction to Programming in Python
On the 7th and 14th of March 2020, our society organized a 2-day Python Programming workshop named “Introduction to Programming in Python” to teach participants the basics of the programming language Python. To run this workshop, we sought the help of Dr. Alistair Wallis, who has sufficient proficiency in Python Programming, to which he generously accepted and conducted both days of the workshop.

solid data CHALLENGE
SOLID organized the first ever data science competition in the term of 2020/2021. The competition is open to all universities students. The teams had to create a new business idea that utilises data science, then prepare a proposal and pitch their ideas to the panel of judges. The judges were representatives from Adstrux, Shopee and Showwcase.

Natural Language Processing Talk
A talk on the introduction to Natural Language Processing (NLP) was conducted by Fusionex - a renowned data technology provider. Participants have the opportunity to understand interactions between humans and computers via NLP.

DATA SCIENCE IN THE ENTREPRENEUR PATHWAY
SOLID held the first virtual forum in collaboration with Adstrux, Fusionex, Shopee, and Showwcase. Participants were given an overview of working as a data scientist in the real world and discovered essential insights on how data science can bring success to a business.
SOLID held the first event of the 2021/2022 term virtual forum in collaboration with Mr. Calvin Tang from Magnum 4D Berhad. Overall the event was a success with 75 participants of which 73 were from HWUM students, and the remaining 2 were Non-HWUM students. Based on the post-event feedback, the participants found this event was informative and instructive. They also had a clearer picture of what to prepare to obtain or transit into a data profession career.

Understanding the Differences between Data Professions
SOLID held the first event of the 2021/2022 term virtual forum in collaboration with Mr. Clarence from KPMG Malaysia and Mr. Hong from MoneyLion. Overall the event was a success with participants of which 70 were from HWUM students, and the remaining 2 were Non-HWUM students. Based on the post-event feedback, the participants found this event was informative and instructive. They also had a clearer mindset regarding the data professions in the data field.
